Carvana, a pioneer in the online used car marketplace, has recently released its list of the top ten best-selling electric vehicles (EVs) for the first half of 2023. The rankings are based on the number of units sold, with the Tesla Model 3 leading the pack as the most popular EV.
Carvana’s success in the EV market is evident from the substantial growth in its total EV unit sales over the past five years. According to data from the end of 2022, their sales have increased by an impressive 786%. This surge in sales suggests that more consumers are opting for the used car market as a more affordable entry point into EV ownership. This information is further illustrated in a graphic accompanying the press release.
Apart from the Tesla Model 3, the top ten best-selling EVs in the first half of 2023, as reported by Carvana, include the Nissan LEAF, BMW i3, Chevrolet Volt, Tesla Model Y, Tesla Model S, Volkswagen e-Golf, Chevrolet Bolt, Ford Mustang MACH-E, and Chevrolet Spark. Today, Carvana stands as the largest online used vehicle retailer in the United States, offering more than 46 different makes and models of EVs.
A recent study by Cox Automotive in June 2023 reveals that new EV buyers are increasingly open to a digital purchase experience, with 87% expressing a willingness to buy their EVs entirely online. The study also highlights that while 51% of vehicle shoppers are considering an electric vehicle, affordability remains a significant barrier for many prospective buyers.
