Birthday treat by Dan Gluibizzi

My man surprised me on my birthday this week with a watercolor by Dan Gluibizzi, from one of our favorite store/gallery spaces ever, Ampersand. We saw Dan’s show at Ampersand in the summer and my sweet dude remembered how much I wanted a piece.

More of Dan’s work under my piece. You can buy pieces or a show catalog through Ampersand, if you haven’t been in lately, be sure to stop by the space, they expanded and it’s more spectacular than ever.

And if you see my man, give him a high 5 – he did good.

Designers/Spaces #2: Fay Andrada

Fay Andrada makes great jewelry. I wear her pieces often and never tire of them. Subtle, architectural and sophisticated.

I spent the day with her in NY and we found that we had lived parallel lives in our 20′s – went to the same University, hung at the same spots in Brooklyn. Her apartment is a rare gem and a gorgeous place to spend a sunny afternoon admiring her beautiful pieces and swapping stories from our strikingly similar younger years.

you can find her pieces here: earrings, bracelets, necklace.

All the Real Girls

Such a beautiful, colloquial meditation on small town boredom and fumbling your way through the slow-motion beauty and soul crushing anguish of a first, true love. Definitely worth another watch 10 years later.

Designers/Spaces Series #1: Electric Love, Brooklyn NY

In celebration of all the talented designers that we represent at Spartan, I have been collecting this little series of behind the scenes glimpses of the spaces that they work and live in. As much as an excuse to spend some time with the beautiful folks that we are so fortunate to work with, as an excuse to play with my new camera.

Our first space is the home/studio of husband and wife duo Hitomi Matarese & Charlie Walker aka Electric Love. We arrived at their industrial Brooklyn Loft on a blustery winter day at dusk. Their space emanates warmth and light and magic. They are really special people who make really special pieces with loads of love, attention to detail, and true child-like enthusiasm.

Lousie Bourgeois

My Grandpa and I are both smitten with this Louise Bourgeois quilt. I definitely have the coolest Grandparents ever.

Port Gibson, Mississippi

My Father’s family has resided in Port Gibson, Mississippi for many, many generations. This Spring, my Grandparents are preparing move away from the home that my father grew up in, which has housed the Person Family since 1860.

This sunny Southern winter weekend, we have all gathered for biscuits, gumbo, copious Bourbon & storytelling and to celebrate & pay homage to this big, beautiful, historic, much loved and joyfully lived-in home.
