Francesca Woodman at SFMOMA

Francesca Woodman’s photogrpahs always struck me from a distance as quite haunted and eerie. Perhaps this was tainted by her untimely suicide at 22 and uncanny genius for such a young artist.

However, the experience of seeing her prints in person has dramatically changed my impression of her work. I caught the current exhibition at the SFMOMA and was profoundly moved by the beauty of her images. At a time when so many of us are struggling for a way to communicate with the world, her images are sophisticated and poignant, confident and gorgeous.
